Seems like years since my very first dabblings in Kaleidoscope scheming. Actually, it was nearly 1 year ago. That very first scheme which never worked quite right was "Khaki", which was really a recoloring of Aaron (remember that?) with my version of the standard widgets. I never publically released it, because of its problems. I then developed "Althea" in which I said "To Hell with standard widgets!" and made some truely unique widgets. My style for interface controls was solidified with my next scheme, "Dark Star" which was the first to use my signature "+,/,-" widgets and scroll arrows. Fortunately, it was at that time that K1.5 betas started rolling in and I was able to update my old schemes to the new format. Not only was this new format easier to work with, it was a lot more stable and error-free. "Khaki" would have its chance after all! I converted it, gave it new "+,/,-" widgets and scroll arrows in "Dark Star"'s style, and released it. This scheme was a hit! People loved it! Occasionally, I still get letters about it. I would hope that it could be considered a "classic". Well, since then, I've developed my style further (or dug myself into a rut further?) and my "A Touch of Gray" series is what I consider my base to build upon. So, I've updated the classic "Khaki" to my present idea of what a scheme should be and optimized it for K1.8 and MacOS 8. So, in honor of my one year anniversary of scheming, I give you "Khaki", the scheme that started it all!
Version History
1.8: New widgets, new scroll bar stuff, new menu bar, new buttons, new pull-down menus, new grow box, embossed and shadowed text where available, pop-up window resources, bevel buttons.
1.5.1: Added the title text drop shadow. Not having embossed titles like K1.0.1 was my only major complaint about K1.5. Greg finally answered my e-mails :> And, I've moved the arrow on the disabled pull-down menu over a pixel and improved the b&w version of the resource.
1.5: Converted from 1.0.x format and completely worked over. Should be error-free!
1.2: Attempt to fix color-substituting problems. Created new ones.
1.1: Attempt to fix color-substituting problems. Added some new ics.
1.0: Initial structure (in 1.0.x format)
Khaki was named before I had decided to name all of my schemes after Grateful Dead titles. I called it Khaki because khaki, though many consider to just be tan, is really a family of colors ranging anywhere from off-white to dark brown plus shades of drab and olive green - all the colors in the scheme.
Take this scheme, use it, love it, hate it. Send me an e-mail and tell me what you think. I don't ask for any payment other than that. Of course, if you want to help out a poor grad student (fade in violins), I couldn't refuse! Hey, I did actually receive a check from one person (thanks again!) and another guy offered to to trade a couple of Dead tapes for schemes (I lost your email, write me back. I'll take your best from '91!). Miracles do happen! And if you want to put this scheme on a CD-ROM, go ahead, but let me know.
